Transformation

Six weeks ago we undertook the massive task of a complete remodel of our 2002 Tioga Motorhome.  Prior to the remodel the color scheme inside the home on wheels was the typical mauve, blue, teal, beige velour.  The window coverings were dated and worn.  The wallboard had light blue and teal swishes on the off white background. The carpet dingy from years of family and pet traffic.  The layout was good, but the decor left much to be desired.  So, electric drill in hand I began the transformation!
Unfortunately, I did not take before pictures, but if you are reading this, you probably get the drift of what it looked like pre-remodel!
After taking down all the valances and existing blinds, filling the holes with putty, I began the 2 day adventure of painting the walls.  First mistake, I bought both primer and paint with primer.  Didn't need the primer, and 1 coat of the paint with primer covered the wallboards well enough that a few touch ups was all that was needed to have complete coverage.  We chose a blue for the bedroom and bathroom, and a taupe/beige for the living room.  It took 2 days because the painting and drilling was all on my own as the hubby was out of town.

This picture is the new living room.
We had a 5 foot long jackknife couch that did not have arms.  It was not comfortable to sit on and didn't hold 2 people.  We replaced it with this couch that is 72 inches long, it also jackknifes into a bed.  But now three can sit comfortably on the couch when watching tv.  We rearranged the dinette, turning it sideways so that it now only sits 2 people.  Usually the table becomes a collection place for odds and ends when we travel anyway.  We rarely sit and eat inside.  This gave us the room we needed for the couch.  The couch was only $350 online.  Handy line furniture.  We replaced all the window treatments with blinds from Lowe's.  The window treatments were the most expensive part of the project.  I admit, I could have done it much cheaper, but a woman wants what she wants!  These shades are blackout shades to help in this Florida climate!  I repainted the table base and chairs a chocolate brown.  I re-upholstered the seats with a fun giraffe print, for a little pizazz.  My husband picked out that pattern. As you can see the floors are no longer the teal carpet!

This is the kitchen view.  The big change is the re-configuration of our tv storage area to the right of the stove.  Originally, where you see the silver microwave was a lazy susan with a large old style tv on it.  Below the microwave you can see our slim tv that we mounted to a new door my husband created to cover the hole where the old microwave used to be housed.  I was able to match the stain so that the new swing door looks like it was always there.  We now have a large storage space behind the tv to store anything we want.  Additionally, my husband made a shelf for over the microwave, and fashioned a netting to hold paper goods, for our camping trips, in place.  This new reconfiguration gives us much more useable space and we LOVE it!  My hubby placed a bar, like the old fashioned hood bars to hold your car hood up, on the door for the tv, so it would stay at a good angle for watching tv when we open the cabinet door.  You can also see the new backsplash I put up.  This is the BEST feature, 2nd only to the new floors, in my opinion.  This is a peel and stick tile from Home Depot.  It appears to be glass tiles, but it isn't.  The sheets came in 10X10 peel and stick sheets.  Easy to cut, piece together, and wahlah!  You have a nice, light weight backsplash.  I originally bought 7 sheets to cover the area, but ran short, so I ordered another 6 pack and completed the job, adding tiles in the bathroom and on the overhead bed rail.  Total cost for the tiles $110, pricey, but worth it in my mind!  These are only sold on line in my area.

Now to the flooring.  We used peel and stick vinyl planks from Lowes. These are .99cents each.  It took us 4.5 boxes = 135 planks= $135....cheap but major IMPACT!  They were easy to lay, we bought a special pair of shears that cut through the planks like butter.  We bought a composite trim, made of something like styrofoam to trim around the edges, not perfect but good enough for us.  The stripping of the old flooring, addition of the new planks took 16 hours, but it was fun for us.  The step area was a bit of a pain,, we had to add screws to keep the tiles from slipping.  The trim over the slide lip and around the well to the cab was retrofitted to meet our needs.  Again, not perfect but good enough.  We placed one vinyl plank down the center of the main area from kitchen to slide out, the rest of the planks came off this strip going front to rear in direction.  The purpose of the one strip going the opposite direction was for the roller on the bottom of the slide to roll down one strip instead of rolling across the many if we had not done this design.  We only have one roller on the slide.  We had hear the slide roller can damage flooring, hopefully our design holds up.
Above the cab we replaced the old curtains, put up new blackout pull down shades.  I bought a curtain from Lowes and used it to recover the old valance, over the cab front window.  The rest of that fabric was used to make a pillow for the bedroom.  The same pattern curtain was used to make the privacy curtain between the bedroom and the bathroom.  You can see the peel and stick tiles used on the cab pull out above.

The bedroom, soothing blue with beige Levalor blinds.

Above, the bathroom.  I originally planned to paint all of the cabinets the cream color of the base cabinet in the bathroom.  But, after dealing with removing all the hardware, prep and paint I came to my senses and decided to leave the cabinets alone!
Below, looking from bedroom to front of cabin.

Another curtain panel bought at Lowes, cut in half to make the privacy curtain for cab over bed. (below)

That's about it.  We just have the carpet up front left, plan to dye it navy, and then use spray paint to paint the front seats, also navy.
We had such a good time and are so pleased with the results that we are now in the middle of doing the same remodel of our friends mmotorhome.  Will post pics when done with that project.
